Recipe: Cacao Berry Smoothie

The Mayans referred to cacao berry as the “food of the Gods”, and for good reason. Throughout history, the cacao plant has been revered for its healing properties. Among the many known health benefits, containing essential vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants, cacao is widely understood as a heart healthy food. Sometimes thought of as a “heart opener,” many cultures use the bean in spiritual practices to help foster work with the inner realms. Its consumption increases blood flow, creating a clean, focused energy throughout the body, while also elevating mood. Those who incorporate the use of cacao berry in ceremonial rituals believe it to be a gentle¬†facilitator to reach inward, opening up emotions, thoughts, and belief systems.

Making this smoothie is an excellent way to get all of the flavor of chocolate, with an added healthful boost of greens and fruit too. Take a sip and love yourself a little more by pausing for just a moment to feel what flows through you…
