The Mayans refer to cacao as the “food of the Gods”, and for good reason. Throughout history, the cacao plant has been revered for its healing properties. Among the many known health benefits, containing essential vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants, cacao is widely understood as a heart healthy food. Sometimes thought of as a “heart opener”, many cultures use the bean in spiritual practices to help foster work with the inner realms. Its consumption increases blood flow, creating a clean, focused energy throughout the body, while also elevating mood. Those who incorporate the use of cacao in ceremonial rituals believe it to be a gentle facilitator to reach inward, opening up emotions, thoughts and belief systems.
